Nicholas Kis travelled in the 1680s from Protestant Hungary to Amsterdam to learn the art of punchcutting to print the scriptures in Magyar. When he returned he had to sell his work, which through a series of events, survive to this day. Often misnamed Janson these types mark the so called ‘Dutch’ style.
